| | Tae Kwon-Do, the Korean Art of Self-Defence, famed for its high, dynamic kicks, arrived in Cornwall in 1969, through RAF servicemen that had learnt the martial art in Malaysia. The first school was established at RAF St Mawgan, and there has been a school in Newquay ever since. Cornwall Tae Kwon-Do traces its roots back to 1974, when Danny Broderick began his training at RAF St Mawgan. Danny later joined the second school to open in Cornwall at Carn Brae under the Malaysian black belt T K Loh. Cornwall Tae Kwon-Do operates three GTI schools in the county; Camborne, Newquay, and Truro and is in partnership with Exeter Tae Kwon-Do Academy. These long-running schools are part of a multi-national network called Global Tae Kwon-Do International (GTI) enabling students to attend national and international competitions and seminars under renowned Masters of the Art such as the legendary Master Tony 'the Iceman' Sewell. The Cornwall Tae Kwon-Do Instructors pride themselves on their teaching, staying true to the traditional ideals of Tae Kwon-Do, teaching Tae Kwon-Do in its original form alongside the philosophy of the Art, whilst also giving students access to the modern aspects such as competition training and advanced self-defence and anti-bullying awareness. Many students hold national titles, such as English or British Champion following great competition success over the years. And all schools guarantee to offer the lowest training fees of any local Tae Kwon-Do school. The schools work alongside their local communities, supporting events and charities. Cornwall Tae Kwon-Do helps the RNLI in Newquay raise money at their annual Lifeboat Day. And the schools recently joined together in a friendly competition to raise over £1050 for BBC Children in Need, part of their commitment to protecting children and supporting their development.
